Klimke learned how to ride and train horses correctly, from the absolute basics right through to the highest technical levels, and continues in this vein today—single-mindedly, passionately, and with the utmost success in the disciplines of dressage, eventing, and show jumping. Part 1: Dressage: Exercises to improve extension; rhythm; relaxation; contact between the rider’s hands and the horse’s mouth; familiarization with rider aids; half- and full halts; transitions; signs of suppleness; first show ring experiences; and much more. Pole work (cavalletti): Introduction to the technique and work on the longe line. Jumping: First jumping obstacles; use of a lead horse; and gymnastic series. Cross-country: Use of the safety seat; first jumping obstacles; introduction to water; work uphill and downhill.

Part 2: Dressage: Refinement of rider aids; development and improvement of straightness, impulsion, and suppleness; half pirouette; rein back; counter canter; grid work; dressage outside the arena; and much more. Pole work (cavalletti): Loosening and strengthening of musculature at the walk, trot, and canter. Jumping: Gymnastic series; individual jumps; familiarization with different fences and obstacles; jumping on angles. Cross-country: Work over individual fences and obstacles, as well as a series of fences and obstacles; work over ditches and water.

Part 3: Dressage: Lateral movement; development of flying changes; collection exercises; use of the curb; dressage outside the arena; and much more. Pole work (cavalletti): Gymnastics; circle jumping; improvement of flexibility and cadence. Jumping: Gymnastics; “skinny” jumps; turns; distances; and more. Cross-country: Canter/gallop training on hills; series of fences and obstacles; jumping into water; drop jumps.
