Anja Beran's shows why dressage is made for the horse and not vice versa! She and Manuel Jorge de Oliveira, demonstrates how only correct dressage work develops a true riding horse.
ABOUT ANJA: Anja Beran spent a major part of her childhood at her grandfather’s hunting lodge in Bavaria, surrounded by hunting dogs and horses. There she decided she would one day be either a forester or a professional rider. Beran ultimately chose riding as her life’s work. Horses brought her to Portugal in 1985, where she initially rode with Luis Valenca, and later met and worked intensively with Manuel Jorge de Oliveira, who remains her mentor.
At home in Germany, she spent 16 years under the tutelage of Marc de Broissia, training horses of all breeds, before eventually managing and running Gut Rosenhof, an astoundingly beautiful mountain farm and training facility in Rudratsried, Bayern, Germany. Horses are now sent from all over the world to work with her and her outstanding staff—at Gut Rosenhof, every horse is allowed to develop at his own individual speed, gently, with great care for the classical ideal of true harmony between horse and rider.
ELEGANT DRESSAGE TRAINING INTRO Part 1: The intention of classical dressage trainer Anja Beran’s DVD series is to give riders a different understanding of dressage and to make it clear that dressage is made for the horse and not vice versa! Together with her mentor Manuel Jorge de Oliveira, Beran shows that only correct dressage work develops a true riding horse. With well-conditioned musculature, and mental as well as physical balance, the horse matures and develops into a self-confident and satisfied riding partner for his whole—and hopefully long—life.
Beran explains how horses can benefit from proper dressage training. She starts with a physical evaluation of the horse’s weaknesses and asymmetries, and continues with specific exercises to improve his body shape and muscle tone. Gracefulness, aesthetics, harmony, and ease are the fascinating result of her training methods. In this DVD, Beran works with a Westphalian gelding named Flamingo. Although he has experienced many ups and downs, he proves a perfect example of how classical dressage training is not only for Iberian horses. 80 Minutes
ELEGANT DRESSAGE TRAINING BASIC Part 2: Basic Training Provides a Solid Foundation
When we dream of a perfect dressage horse, we might imagine one that exhibits lovely, elevated movements, aims to anticipate the rider’s thoughts, and it seems to glide through the arena as if by magic. But how to accomplish this goal with the horse we already have?
A sound and careful basic training is the most important foundation for any horse’s successful development.
In this DVD, Anja Beran and her team show how they work with young horses to find “magic.” Following proper work on the longe line and a careful start under the saddle, Beran demonstrates how first the steps of lateral movement lead quite naturally to the first steps of collection. The Elegant Dressage Training series aims to develop and create a better understanding of how the use of appropriate methods, adapted to the horse’s needs, contributes substantially to the horse’s mental and physical health. 82 Minutes
ELEGANT DRESSAGE TRAINING ADVANCED Part 3: Schooling of Advanced Level Exercises. A sound and careful basic training is the most important foundation for any horse’s successful development. In Volume 3 of the Elegant Dressage Training DVD series, Anja Beran and her mentor Manuel Jorge de Oliveira show how advanced horses progressively “grow into” the more demanding exercises of classical equitation. This DVD also discusses common problems experienced during training, for example, natural crookedness.
The Elegant Dressage Training series aims to develop and create a better understanding of how the use of appropriate methods, adapted to the horse’s needs, contributes substantially to the horse’s mental and physical health. In this DVD, Dr. Matilda Holmer-Rattenhuber explains bio-mechanical aspects of dressage training and horses. 87 Minutes
